Summary Two computational methods are used to predict the ow over a generic helicopter fuselage of a simple conguration. A thin-layer Navier-Stokes code and a panel method code are used to compute the surface pressures for comparison with data from 4 experimental conditions at 14 fuselage stations. The ndings of both methods are in agreement with the experimental pressure data. However, separation patterns and other viscous ow features from the Navier-Stokes code solution are shown that cannot be easily modeled with the panel method.

A comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

Scalable Computational Steering System for Visualization of Large-Scale CFD Simulations

A general-purpose computational steering system (POSSE) which can be coupled to any C/C++ simulation code, has been developed and tested with a 3-D Navier-Stokes flow solver (PUMA2). This paper illustrates how to use “computational steering” with PUMA2 to visualize CFD solutions while they are being computed, and even change the input data while it is running. In addition, the visualizations ca...

A Solution Adaptive Structured/Unstructured Overset Grid Flow Solver with Applications to Helicopter Rotor Flows

This paper summarizes a method that solves both the three dimensional thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations and the Euler equations using overset structured and solution adaptive unstructured grids with applications to helicopter rotor fiowfields. The overset structured grids use an implicit finite-difference method to solve the thin-layer Navier-Stokes/Euler equations while the unstructured grid ...

Investigation of instable fluid velocity in pipes with internal nanofluid flow based on Navier-Stokes equations

In this article, the instable fluid velocity in the pipes with internal nanofluid is studied. The fluid is mixed by SiO2, AL2O3, CuO and TiO2 nanoparticles in which the equivalent characteristic of nanofluid is calculated by rule of mixture. The force induced by the nanofluid is assumed in radial direction and is obtained by Navier-Stokes equation considering viscosity of nanofluid. The displac...
